The period film offered a spectacular cast in a fictionalized account of the real life All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGBPL), opening with a flashback to 1943. The movie grossed over $132 million, creating indelible characters with signature lines in the process (think Tom Hanks as Jimmy Dugan professing, “There’s no crying in baseball!”)
